Testing my tracklaying before ballasting begins with the heaviest train I could put together. It's a Minitrix 9F with 28 coaches and 46 wagons measuring 18 feet in total length. The Rat and pair of BGs on the down line is the track cleaning train with modified couplings, so couldn't be added.
I left it running for 15 laps in each direction with no derailments and only minor adjustments over one crossing! I think its time to ballast.

  • when did minitrix make british stock? i can only find german/ swiss/ french stock on the website..

  • The 9F in this video is a pre-1973 model, or at least it came out of a pre-1973 box!

They were then sold under the Hornby-Minitrix brand name from 1973 until production ceased. Marklin bought what was left of Trix in 1996, but they were hard to find before then and they haven't been seen since. However, Kader (Bachmann) may have bought them in 1993 when they bought the part of Trix which made British OO models, so exactly what happened to the British N Gauge mouldings is anybodys guess!

  • I have to admit that real US trains are a lot longer!

  • Model US trains are a lot longer as well, a quick search on here will dig up 100+ vehicle long model trains.

This was just to test that my tracklaying was good enough, especially over the modified points where the camera was set up and across baseboard joins where the track has no physical connection for alignment.

  • I say, your train is pulling about over 1kg off coaches and wagons.

  • I think if I had the stock, it would probably manage another 10-15 coaches, maybe even more. Once the first 14 coaches pass, the train starts to go UP a 1:30 grade which is on a 12" radius curve.

It's a shame they don't make the Minitrix 9F anymore. Performance wise, it's far superior to the Farish models currently on sale.
