This version is beautiful. A common interpretation of this song is that describes Shaka the Lion, a warrior Zulu king, who heroically resisted the armies of the European colonizers. He is supposed not to be dead but only sleeping and will one day awaken and return to lead his oppressed people to freedom.

Love this version of the song. Granted the group, Straight with No Chaser, has a good version, but there is just something about this one that is more moving.

I also remember the Spike Lee program on PBS. This version of "The Lion Sleeps" is simply shimmering.
