Rick Oldersom of hifisolutions.nl experiences the Antelope Zodiac Plus for the first time in his Amsterdam showroom. Rick seemed more than impressed and he will soon be offering the Zodiac Plus in his wonderful audio store. If you're anywhere near Amsterdam, you owe it to yourself to go visit Rick and his wonderful staff. This was the most enjoyable dealer visit I've ever made.

  • Yes, both RCA and XLR outs are always active, but typically, I'd think you'd want to use the sub's crossover and then go out to the other speakers. Maybe in the audiophile world it's a different story.

  • The large volume knob in the middle does control the volume and the smaller one on the right controls the headphone outs. In this video, Rick is going out to a remote controllable preamp, so that he can control the volume from across the room. Zodiac Gold, will ship with it's own remote, btw. Marcel of Antelope Audio.

  • Having the independent gain control for the headamp is really a nice feature that I have personally found quite useful when people are over listening...to both various phones and my main system simultaneously.

  • You are correct in saying "in the audiophile world it's a different story." The preferred way, still far from total adoption, is to pass the speaker-level signal from the speakers to the subwoofer. When your speakers and sub do not have the right i/o connections, the next best thing is usually to pass through your sub's crossover, as you suggest; but many subs (most, as far as I know) do not allow a balanced signal to continue through the crossover--negating the whole point of balanced topology

  • Oh wow, separate volumes for headphone outs (I do love my headphones) and pre-outs? Now that is an amazing design...

Are both RCA analogue outs and XLR outs active at the same time? (So that users with subwoofers can run the XLR's through amps to speakers, and the RCA's directly to their subwoofers, for example?)

By the way, thanks for reading and responding to my other post!

  • I can't wait to try the plus model out myself. It has all the inputs and outputs most home or professional users could want, mute and mono functions, and an Antelope clock built right in... The clock alone seems worth the price of admission--like Rick says, the timing is perfect. I am curious though--he seems to be using it as DAC only, but isn't that a big volume knob on the front? Maybe the volume controls the headphone outs, but not the pre outs?
