This was a case of nah, he's surely not going to try and pass here is he? Oh crap, he is. Well that was the overtake from this trucker on Seven Kings High Street, which is dotted with pedestrian reservations. By rights I probably should have moved more into the Primary to deter his advances. As his lead over me was short lived, I had an opportunity to demonstrate Defensive Cycling in a wider part of the road which happened to have vehicles parked in the left hand lane by showing a good shoulder-check and moving out into the Primary very early and staying there until I felt safe to return to the Secondary. The piece concludes with another strong move into the Primary on approach to another pedestrian reservation. I think our HGV driver got the point. Whatever happened to them next I don't know however as we joined Winston Way: they became stuck in traffic and I never saw them again. Just a shame there was no company logo, otherwise they'd receive a link to this video and a suggestion of sending their driver on a refresher course.

  • Crikey! Nice job in demonstrating afterwards. I expect he realised what he'd done wrong after that.

  • @CyclingMikey

Yeah, well he didn't try that move again anyway...

  • Horrible overtake. Right up against the railings too.

Kind of overtake you could imagine someone going under the wheels if they have a nervous wobble.

  • @WheelyGoodFun

Even though I know this road really well, I'm not sure I even remember the railings at the time, potentially nasty though they are. I remember moving my body to the left, to signal my displeasure at such a dangerous pass though. Could have been really frightening for a novice rider but I was ready with the brakes.

Made sure I was in a better position when there was a chance of a repeat later on, just hope my message got through to this driver.

  • Damn that overtake was close, excellent position afterwards in all cases.

  • @gaz545

Yeah. Rather optimistic IMO too. I don't think the driver factored my speed or the approaching pedestrian island. I've been followed by trucks on this road before and usually they hang back but not this guy it seems.

Well, I wasn't going to let him make the same mistake again! :)
