Walter Lara is a 23 year-old honor student facing deportation on July 6, 2009. Walters family immigrated from Argentina when he was three years old. He has only known life as an American, and proudly declares that the United States is my home.

U.S. Senator Bill Nelson wrote the Department of Homeland Security on Walter's behalf, requesting that they defer action on Walter's deportation because "he has earned the chance to live and work here and call America home."

Sign onto Sen. Nelson's letter and on Thursday, July 2, 2009, we will deliver Sen. Nelson's letter with your co-signature to the Department of Homeland Security.

  • Something is wrong with the immigration laws. I he is 23 years old and have been in the USA since he was three then the law somehow have to change to allow him and many others like him to legalize their situation.

  • if i get caught, I pay the fine..... They get caught, the fine should be death

  • Funny.. you say a law is a law but yet every single one of y'all brake laws yourselves!! Littering in public, drinking and driving, underage drinking, smoking weed or other drugs. Stealing, Breaking mailboxes for fun... Etc. You know what I mean. But yet judge someone based by being here, with them speaking english and everything. Fucking hypocrites.

  • It's a shame but....they only have their parents to blame. They don't belong here. Should have never been brought here!

  • please give this boy a chance to stay.so he can give back to are Country,he is a good boy and can do good to are Country,

  • @philip2go Judges are only allowed to alter deportations if there is a risk of religious or political persecution should that person be returned to their country of origin. I doubt there's death squads waiting for Walter Lara back home. And there's no human rights violation in sending him home other than in the imaginations of those who find enforcement of laws to be "unfair".

  • @bamissfa Riiiiight, because only illiterate illegals are a threat to our society? That's retarded thinking. Being here illegally, is being here illegally, and no amount of education or money should get you special treatment. After all, you wouldn't want to get stopped for speeding and watch some rich kid in a Maserati be told he can go on his way just because he's rich and well-educated. Would you?

  • @musicany19 Sure, lets just change every law on the books to make exceptions for individuals. Yeah, that won't cause ANY confusion or bias! Get real! Laws are laws, and ignorance of them is not an excuse. And if we are not a country of laws, then we are lost.

  • The first law of any sovereign nation is its borders. Walter may not be guilty of the actual violation his parents committed, he's still here under illegal pretenses all the same. It may SEEM unfair, or cruel, but laws are only laws if they are enforced without bias. And to let Walter stay simply because he was ignorant of the conditions of his arrival don't change his responsibility to deal with his illegal presence here. To do otherwise is an insult to all those who do it the right way.

  • this is terrible and unfair

  • @Wscate 3. ) Just because they were the first humans here doesn't mean they didn't migrate just like everyone else . They just migrated to the Americas before anyone else did . If it wasn't the Natives it would of been some other group of people that would be called the natives of America . America still would of been populated either way the Natives just got to it first, they were LUCKY .
