And As I have Found Out By krayola....

it was written by charles trenet, and was originally called "la mer" (it was in french)... and then bobby darin sang the english version "beyond the sea"

Trenet's original was much more sophisticated, satisfying piece of music. Stripped of its counterpoint melody, "Beyond The Sea" is pop pap.
