@Aerien, It would have been nice to see where Brett and Richards songwriting would have gone. By "Head" Music Brett insisted on writing with the others which was ok but i would love to have heard more of Richard's killer riffs driving the songs! He sadly disappeared into the background more and more after "Coming Up"

@m1r9h71 same for me, Head Music after Coming up was like.....you're kidding right? It took a long time to grow on me, but isn't on the same level as the earlier albums. And it was the last Suede album I bought for a long time, even though I still listened the crap out of the other albums (Sci-Fi, Singles, Coming up, DMS, Suede). I only bought A New Morning special ed a few months ago and well it takes some getting used to. Although I instantly loved Golden Gun and Waterloo.

Alex Lee probably co-wrote the better songs on 'A New Morning' ..'Beautiful Loser' 'StreetLife' and 'Astrogirl'

@m1r9h71 I thought Head Music was still good, so lyrically it may not be Dog Man Star, but Can't Get Enough, Everything will Flow, She's in Fashion were great songs.

Other tracks like Asbestos, Hi Fi, Elephant Man werent that great, but they sounded good instrumentally and were still ok songs.

@ Eskimosongs the problem was "Head Music" was written purely to fuel Brett's heroin addiction and has the worst lyrics he ever wrote. Having waited 5 years between "coming up" and "Head Music" and being bitterly disappointed, waiting a further 3 years for "A New Morning" was just a push too far! It has really grown on me over time - even if the lyrics are still a bit poor (lots of "molecules" etc!). He came back to lyrical form with The Tears but his voice is a bit buggered nowadays!

I've always thought it's a shame that 'A New Morning' did not do well. I personally find it a vast improvement over 'Head Music'. I only liked the singles from 'Head Music' and I find the rest of that album to be poor.

'A New Morning' as an album though is actually good ( at the time probably even a return to form ). Not just the singles from it. Astrogirl is a very good track.
