I was having trouble with my '91 Honda Accord starting. I would turn the key, the engine would crank, but it would not start. I was told to remove my battery cable for a few min to reset the computer. And voila! It started. This happened 3 times in a week.
After much researching, one solution kept coming up, the main relay assembly. It is the part that controls the signal to the fuel pump. It took very little time or tools. The part that was hard was getting to it. It was under the dash to the left of the steering wheel waaay up in the dash. It took some yoga moves, but I had it out and back in in about 35 min. I used a 10mm socket wrench with an extension and a small flat head screwdriver.

  • Not sure why someone gave me a thumbs down :( No has had a bad thing to say about it yet.

  • Also I found out that the problem causing my car to rev up and down by herself is I have a bad intake air control motor. A new one costs over $200! I have decided to buy one from the junkyard for $25. Fingers crossed it will fix the problem.

  • It makes me so happy that so many people are finding my video helpful. I never imagined it would be this popular. Thank you all. If this works for you please let me know.

  • Thank you for all your wonderful comments. I am thinking about posting another video when I change my pads. An easy job I know. But I would still like to show all of you the work I do myself. This is the easiest car I have ever had to work on. She is at 213,465 miles and tho she idles a but rough, (I believe I have a carbon build up on the throttle) she is a marvelous car!

  • Thanks to all of you having such positive things to say to me. I have not had that same problem again. Instead now when I turn on the car it revs by it's self. I either have to put it in gear or gun it past 4000 rpms. Have no clue what's wrong with it. If I figure it out, I'll make another video telling how I fixed it.

  • I asked for the main relay assembly.

  • Funny video but helped a lot thank you! :)

  • Most ladies, as well as most men I know, would be totally stumped and junk the car. I guess it's part of the disposable mindset. Very refreshing to see your solution. I wish I lived on your block.

  • Thanks! This happened to me this week, and I was stranded on the side of a major highway. After letting it sit for a couple of hours, it started right up and I drove it home, but it hasn't stared since. I was going to replace the fuel pump until I found out about this relay. Thanks again for showing me where it's located! Going to try that today.

  • nicely done

  • Just wanted to say "thank you!" I was having the same issue and ran into your video. After watching it, I looked at my 94 accord and found the relay on the right side of the steering column. A $51 part at the local auto parts store, 15 minutes of my time and your video saves me $110 at the mechanic. Thank you so much! The location is slightly different on the 94 but removal and installation is the same. If anyone needs help with the 94 please let me know. But your video is awesome!
