House of Freaks is beyond underground. The duo had amazing music and Brian Harvey as lyricist and guitarist influenced me much. When I found out about the brutal slaying of him and his family my heart sank. Such a senseless crime. For more on the story go to:

Also feel free to comment on the message board or donate to the Bryan and Kathryn Harvey Memorial.

The song is an early track by House of Freaks off their cake Walk album in 1991. Written, sung, and guitar work by Bryan Harvey. I always loved this song, but sadly applies in tribute

  • I'm the guy who took the photo at 0:22 (which is also on Bryan's page at Wikipedia). I'm glad to see the image put to such good use.

  • @hbobrien It's a great picture and thank you for being okay with me using it. Bryan was a great influence on me and I had to make a tribute. I was just starting out with video and I plan to remake a better one. Cheers! x

  • I met Bryan Harvey in 1989, when House of Freaks opened for the Smithereens in Raleigh, N.C. My brother and I walked around behind the venue and ran into Bryan and Johnny Hott. They were both real down-to-earth guys, especially Bryan. My brother didn't have a ticket so Bryan put him on the guest list. It was a great show, and later I picked up the Tantilla CD. Why do things like this have to happen to people like him?

  • I know exactly what you mean mate. It simply broke my heart. Such a brilliant person. I imagined him down to earth. How wonderful it must of been to of met him and Johnny Hott To see them live no less. They were a pregnantly large influence on me and music. Not only were they good musicians but they the lyrics were just so very honest. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

  • Brian was one of the few musicians in Richmond that could laugh at himself and didn't take himself too seriously. Although he had every reason to be conceited he was humble to the end. These young musicians in town are clowns full of self importance and no talent. An era died with Brian.

  • Here here. Such a colourful way to put it sir. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

  • WHY WAS THIS CRIME NOT A NATIONAL NEWS STORY? Tell me that why don't you. The monsters killed not only Bryan and Kathy but the two little girls Stella and Ruby. They all were bludgeoned and had their throats slit. Only of the worst crimes I ever heard of, and that includes the Manson murders, the O.J. Simpson murders, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, etc. One of the absolute worst.

  • Hello, thanks so much for posting this. I remember when this happened New Years Day Murders. It was and Uncle and Nephew that was responsable for the horrible murder. They also murdered one of the killers girlfriends, Ashley Basketville and her parents, i do believe. I read that the only reason they picked the Harvey Home, was because their front door was open. Thats right!!! The Harveys were expecting company for their annual New Years Day party. I pray that they are at peace now,God Bless them

  • @raunchboy - I was at that show too! So amazing that they had such incredible sound from just a duo. Became an instant fan that night and followed them from then on... RIP Bryan.

  • so sad watched it on Id last night not only them another family too so so sad

  • i just read on wikipedia today that one of the men responsible for the killing of the Harvey family is scheduled to be executed this Thursday.

  • i didn't know the family but i've been a Richmonder for about 16 years now. I just read the T.D. article about the bridge thats just been dedicated to them near Forest Hill.

Its hard to hear this song without feeling gutted. I hope the family knows how much they are missed by so many.

  • @cynthiacher Why?... because the perpetrators were Black and the Harvey family was White. In the USA Blacks are slaughtering Whites and Asians constantly and the media hides the truth because of Orwellian political correctness. Google: Wichita massacre, Channon Christian and Chris Newsom... the list goes on and on but most people will never hear of these horrific crimes.

  • I was so saddened to hear about this. I saw HoF three times in Toronto, the second time after the show I was lucky enough to chat with Brian, he even showed me some of the chords to "Crack in the Sidewalk". We talked about guitars and recording. A classy guy. I can't even begin to imagine the horror that his family went through.

  • @VeldinJoe

Oh yeah Joe in Virginia it's automatic that they face a death sentence. Im not sure which ones exactly but cold blooded 3rd degree murder is an instant death sentence in that state.

So you may have that wish fulfilled. I suppose them sucking tax dollars is not too pleasing to me either.
