@pruff1981 Sir, Bruce had left the BB's by this time due to Jack Rielly, their Mgr.; this line up : Carl, Al, DW, Mike, Blondie & Billy Hinsche, all on vocals. Occasionally, BW would show up, but refuse to sing. ---This line up is still in many ways,l my favorite, although musically, the 90's line up with Matt Jardine was THE best, IMHO, having seen the guys 24 times, from 8/64 to 11/97, the concert without Carl, who was desperately ill by then. Carl was the Heart . Wolfsky9

@thebchbys Bruce left as The Flame gents stepped in, but would have to check for exact dates. Al heard The Flame in London, went back and told Carl, You've got to hear this! Carl heard them in the club where Al heard them, and persuaded them to come to California and be on Brother Records. Bruce would have left roughly '72, leading to "So Tough", then "Holland". Though there are some Flames on "Surf's Up" in '71, namely I recognize Ricky on drums on "Disney Girls", I'm sure.

I can never get past this. The juxtaposition of Al's belted lead with Carl's honey-laden, sweetly comforting second lead voice, is magic, the ambrosial blend for Brian's and Roger Christian's song. Al blasts it out, his voice cracking, pouring himself into it, releasing into Carl's sweet-honey "Don't worry baby, everything will turn out alright . . ." I love when Al sings this way, as on "H & V" live. Al did an incredible job on "All This is That" too. I love when Carl sings, full total stop!!!!

I wish Al would start singing this again.

i love it thanks man :)

Ricky Fataar on drums...dennis didn't play due to a fractured wrist/hand. Blondie Chaplain on guitar this tour. He most recently toured supporting the Rolling Stones. Bruce Johnston was not on this end of the tour

Best recording I know of this most prefered Beach Boys song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the pic at 2:03 is the best line-up the Beach Boys ever mustered. the addition of Ricky and Blondie made the band perhaps the world's best live act in the period 1971-1974, with timeless and countless material gathered from 13 years in the business! wish i could've been there!

The thing about Al Jardine that's really interesting--he really sounds a lot like the Wilson brothers and Mike Love, even though he was not in the family. It was a really good thing that they had him in the band, because he really added a lot to the vocal blend.
awesome version. Love hearing Al and Carl doing Brians songs. Was Bruce still playing bass when this was recorded?

@pruff1981 Not here...the lineup on the album (tour) lists Al, Mike, Dennis, Carl, Blondie Chaplin, and Ricky Fataar.

Thank you and thank God for this, Al's interpretation of this great song. Carl's voice on second lead/back up is pure honey. Almost beyond human, angelic. Love Al belting it out, and Carl leading the gorgeous backups. I can't get past the juxtaposition, the sort of counterpoint, to Al's driving, belting lead, and Carl's honey-like, soft, beautiful second lead. The best. (Edited comment.) And now, per Wolfsky9's comment, I think I can hear Dennis in the harmony at 0:35. Thanks, Wolfsky9.

@ericebryan Thanks for re-posting your comment! I just started reading "Heroes & Villains." Interesting stuff. It's mind boggling how much damage Murry Wilson did to his sons, especially Brian.
