I was one a commercial cray boat that lost its roof leaving the bar on a day worse than that about 20 years ago. Wish someone had caught that on film. What a day.

The last boat that came in actually stalled as he was was through the bar and ended up banging against the rock wall at the entrance. Luckily some spectators managed to assist them with ropes while he got his engine started, otherwise he would have ended up going back out.

Whakatane is in the Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand. A great fishing spot!
