Terrell Sundermann demonstrates how to add a cord shroud to eliminate the possibility of stangulation by the exposed lift cords on the back of a Roman shade. This allows you to make an existing shade safe for children. This segment was featured on the PBS television "Creative Living with Sheryl Borden". More information on making Roman shades can be found at www.TerrellDesigns.com.

  • The cord shroud is compliant with the latest Safety Standards because it is not possible to pull out the lift cord using a hand. The test is not done using one finger, but rather with a probe that has two hooks spaced 2.8-inches apart (70 mm). You can read more information on the test procedure on my web site on the page Instructions: Safety Issues for Roman Shades: Lift Cord Safety Issues.

  • What am I missing? How are these cords inaccessible? You can pull them right out of this shroud and still form a huge loop.
