I was at a car show when I was a kid like a year or 2 after Donohue won the 500 and skipped the chance to get his autograph and years later I shared an apartment with a girl who got engaged to his son Michael, I had to dig up a Sports Illustrated issue from 1972 to show her just who her fiancee's Dad was

I went to the 71 race and remember the early Donahue run and Revson
trying to catch Unser at the end. This is an excellent overview of a classic race
when it was as it's best. Brings back great memories.

Innovation, technology, new track records, excitment, and packed grandstands. That is what Indianapolis 500 pole day was all about. I sure hope the excitement like this returns to the Speedway.
