  • So from watching the video it looks like you didn't make it to the top? Gillman's is several hours below Uhuru Peak, the summit of Kilimajaro.

  • Yeah, dont rub it in ;-)

  • I got to Uhuru 6 years ago---at age 55. The 10 of us agreed that the 'brag factor' was big, but that the 'fun factor' was zero. I got pulmonary edema, even with Diamox. I lost 10% of my body weight, even with lots of fluids and food. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, even after exercising 17 hours a week for a year to prepare. It is NOT easy.

  • i have done Kili recently in Feb 2008.. i reached the top UHURU.. was great experience

  • Cleaverp;

    I just summited Uhura's Peak on June 6th. I have never hiked or climbed. I have jogged about 3 miles a day for the past 15 years. It is tough, especially the Barranco Wall, but if you have a strong will, drink 4 liters of water a day, get plenty of rest at night and take 150 mg of Diamox at day, you can make it.

  • Sorry Miles! Of all the people I've met here who have 'done' Kilimanjaro, I've yet to find anyone who has actually reached the summit. I leave 3 July.

  • Hi. I did the climb between Feb 29th and March 11th 2008. We did it for a charity in Dublin, Ireland who hired Good Earth Tours in Moshi, Tanzania. All 12 of us in the group made it to the Uhuru Peak on March 7th which is quite a record I'm told. Out of the six days ascent we spent 2 days at 3900M and 2 days at 4700 to acclimatize. We went up via Rongai route and descended via Marangu. I would highly reccommend Good Earth Tours. Also, make sure your ascent is at least five days.

  • if youv no previous high altitude experience or have problems with acclimitization i very much recomend climbing Mt Meru first, as i recall its 4,800m and is a great warm up for kili plus you get a hell of a view of kili from the summit

  • can anyone give me an idea of who to book through, can i org when i arrive in tanzania?

    will be there in june and am solo so if anyone has any info i'd relly apreciate it. cheers.

  • cheers thanks, cant wait to get there. climbin it to raise money for schools in the local area of tanzania!
