BALDWIN at the LBNGR

On the Saturday, I arrived early at Pages Park, to watch the locos being prepared for the first day of the 2007 Gala. Among them was the ex-WD 2-6-0T Baldwin, which I had not seen in steam before.
In this short film we see the loco propelling its train from the shed yard to the platform, before leaving with the first train to Stonehenge.
We also see it at a couple of places along the line.

  • I love WD Baldwins! Nice filming - you got the panning just right, turning the camera as the engine passed, rather than waiting until the whole train had passed by and only catching the retreating tail lamp as many people do!

  • I'm told the chaps who crewed these loco's did not like them. Cheap 'n' cheerful, plus they did the job.
