This short and amateurish machinima was presented at the VSMM 2009 (in Vienna) to show the current state-of-the-art of the "City & Spectacle" project, which proposes to recreate not only the architecture of the lost Baroque Lisbon (destroyed in 1755), but to create an immersive experience, allowing visitors to catch a glimpse of daily life in 1755.

This video shows the central area of downtown Lisbon: the large riverside plaza ("Terreiro do Paço"), the Royal Palace complex and its Gardens, the Opera House, and the Patriarcal.

The project, started in 2005, is sadly being slowly and patiently done by volunteers with almost no funding, thus it took quite a lot of time to come to this stage. Work is under way to raise some funding for the next stage, which will take another three years of development.

  • Thanks a lot for this upload and the work done! Good taste, by the way! Cheers to all those involved, even more knowing they're making this with mere enthusiasm and nearly no support! Thanks again ;-)

  • @Rotebuehl1 thanks so much for the kind and supportive words :) With next-to-zero support, the project is pacing away very very slowly, but we'll eventually get there...

The fun bit will start when we're able to host some 18th-century events in the region. I'm really looking forward to that! Alas, it's still years in the future until we get to that point...

...e depois veio um terramoto e deu cabo de tudo! Hoje já nao precisamos de terramotos, temos cá uns políticos tao jeitosos a fazerem terremotos e maremotos sem fim! Assim é que é giro!
