Anyone who thinks a .22 is wimpy, is welcome to hold their palm in front of the barrel of a 22 and pull the trigger. What, no takers? You get hit by any powder fired bullet, no matter what, you are not going to be happy. More than likely you're going to stop whatever it is you were doing from the searing pain and think "holy S**T I've been shot". You may be lucky and still able to shoot back but you are going to be awfully distracted because you got a bullet hole in you.

@cobrachoppergirl Also they idea is to wound not kill, for the purpose that on the battlefield the idea is rather then a soldier kill his target removing one opponent from the combat, is to wound him, meaning another opponrnt has to aid his downed comrad thus in effect removing 2 opponents from combat.
