http://www.EasiestGarden.com - Our most striking video yet! We've yet to show anyone our test barrels without them being visibly impressed, and we're sure you will be too. Complete plans/DVD sets are available from our website and detail a step-by-step process to recycle a used 55-gallon, 30-gallon, or 5-gallon plastic container into a garden able to provide dozens - perhaps over a hundred - plants per container.

  • GREAT IDEA! I want to do this, but where do I get 55 gallon barrels?

  • @Pizzapie500 You can get them many places, I usually start with Craigslist and local classified ads, lots of times there are barrels or other used containers for sale. Or you can contact car washes (they use them for soaps), restaurants (they use them for vegetable oil, soda pop concentrate, etc), water bottling plants if you have any in your area, that sort of thing. Just make sure you don't use ones that have had petroleum products or chemicals or anything toxic :)

  • can this system work with hydroponic grow rocks instead of soil

  • @djbthunder Yes, I'm sure it would but I haven't done it. You'll have to get a watering system that will spray the rocks and catch the water. But the barrel itself should be quite cool done that way.

  • wow that is a great idea! I would also be interested in using this for compost as well.

  • @HowToDrillAWell You're far safer eating home-grown food made in these barrels than eating food grown who-knows-where, sprayed with who-knows-what, transported, packaged and labeled by someone else.

  • @Jefferdaughter Actually, that's the definition of food grade; if you can store pickles in a barrel and it won't leach those various toxins into the pickle, then it won't leach into the soil either.

In addition, plants have natural defenses, so you're far safer eating the food from plants grown in these barrels than eating what was originally in barrels like this - something you probably do without knowing it every day.

  • Next time could you speak a little slower? Yikes. You sounded like an auctioneer. :)

  • @BoondockFarms thanks, I am for sure making these in the Spring :)

  • I'm going use a plastic trash can. Buy them anywhere 'new' and then you know that no chems have been in them! Brilliant. Thanks for giving me a few ideas. Peace Out. MWUD

  • Amazing, I have one of those barrels, found it in the woods, this is perfect. Thanks so much for sharing.

  • Wonderful way to garden! It is super to think "outside the box" so to speak..this video shows how we just need a little space to produce quite a few plants for ourselves or families...thank you:)

  • Try the airports, and their plane maintenance area, for the containers. Fantastic thinking!
