A crack in recently formed lava on the delta's bench exposes a lava tube. Turn up the volume for this video and listen for groups of 6-8 low frequency pulses that occur due to steam cracking large hot rocks rolling into the ocean.

Video recorded late April 2009 at the Waikupanaha lava delta near Kalapana, Hawai'i.

Viewing lava is not a crime!

  • That....that is just totally brilliant. I'd love to get that close to lava *sulks* which isn't going to happen since I'm violently allergic to sulfur.

    A little spooky?

  • Glorious!
