Be Creative: Candle Making Molds

The art of candle making requires a variety of supplies, one of the more important, after wax of course, is the candle making mold. Votive and pillar candles all use molds in their creation. This is what gives them their specific height and shape. There are some molds that can be made out of common household items, such as a Pringles container, but there are also store bought molds that come in various shapes and sizes.

Votive Candles

Votive candles are usually about two inches high and are in a round, cylinder shape. These are nice decorative candles that are versatile because of their size. They are also very nice scented candles as well, with a different fragrance for every room if desired.

tart mold

Votive candle making molds can also be found in a couple of other shapes. One such shape is the tart mold, which shapes the candle something like a flower. This type of mold is great for making floating candles, since the candles come out looking like a bunch of flowers which are then able to float in bathtubs, centerpieces or pools, creating a lily effect in the water.

tea light mold

Another votive candle making mold is the tea light mold, which is shorter and round, made to fit into wall sconces or other small candle holders that only hold these small tea light votive candles.

Pillar Candles

Pillar candle making molds have an even larger variety of shapes and sizes than votive candles. Pillar candles use a firmer candle wax so that the walls of the candle hold up when melting. Thus, they can be formed into larger candles and can maintain a variety of shapes and sizes.

The Process

The candle making process for both of these types of candles is similar in the way that the candle making molds are used. Once the wax has been melted to the appropriate temperature, the dyes and fragrances have been added, and the wax has been allowed to cool to 150 degrees, then it is time to pour the wax into the molds.
type of heat

The molds have to be made to withstand this type of heat, as well as have a smooth interior so that the candle can be released without damage after the cooling process has taken place. If a candle making mold is created properly, the candle will slip out of it with a mere tug of the wick, exposing a beautiful creation that everyone can enjoy.
