Romeo & Giulietta's duet from Act I 'Vieni, ah! vieni, in me riposa'. Romeo tries to persuade Giulietta to elope with him but she refuses, unwilling to betray her duty and family honor.

This is one of my favorite duets. And this version is excellent. I like the singers, the tempo, everything. This one and the Larmore/Claycomb are the best versions I have seen so far. Thanks Arashi110 for this video. Could you please post more Paola Gardina in this production?

Paola Gardina, l'uomo più bello che abbia mai visto, quello più elegante che abbia mai ascoltato!!! Poi nei panni militari di Annio è impareggiabile.

O that gorgeously regal voice of Ramon Vargas! :o) Had some of the same 'problem' with Simon Keenlyside's Abalyados in the OperaRara CD of Dom Sebastien, you know. He's supposedly the bad guy, but his singing is so awe-inspiring I want to fight for his side instead! ;oP
Gotta say that I almost mistook Gardina for Agnes Baltsa on first look! No more after she starts singing, tho. :o)

This is the opera that makes me love Bellini! :o)
Hadn't seen this production before. Kind of weird how Mianiti drags out the tempo on selected phrases. It interrupts the flow of the music needlessly to me (Bellini's music is expressive enough without that, I think). Liking Farcas quite a bit, though. Thanks a bunch for posting! :o)

This staging is quite good despite the oddities with tempo and Romeo's weird costume. Otherwise it's very beautiful, with nice choreography and cool lighting effects. The cast is good, they sing well and try to act as best as they can, esp. the two leads. Though poor Romeo obviously has some problems with showing his affection for Giulietta onstage. Must be shy and reserved type. %) Still, the only cast member I actively didn't like was Giacomo Patti as Tebaldo.

His voice timbre just doesn't work for me after Ramon Vargas. Then again, we're supposed to dislike Tebaldo, right? And it's kinda difficult to hate the gorgeous Tebaldo of Sr. Vargas's. Here I have no such problem and gladly hate the man whatsoever. %)
