Stormy Sail Across Lake Michigan Part 1

Dan's week long family sailing trip starts from Chicago August 4, 2008 and they get caught in the worst storm of the year right in the middle of Lake Michigan. Bolts of lightning were hitting the water all around them. Good sailing from St. Joe, MI to South Haven and Saugatuck. Watch Stormy Sail Across Lake Michigan Part 2 where the return trip from St. Joe to Chicago was in 25 mph winds and Small Craft Warnings.

me and my friends are thinking about getting a smaller sailboat with a cabin in it and incase it is to storm how bad can it actually get out there or was this the worst it usually does get.

@eclipse75 Here's a fun fact for you. He is over a body of water, Lightning is striking in multiple places, it's actually fairly easy to get struck by Lightning while in a River or Lake or Ocean. Just a little factoid before you mention that the waves don't amount to anything, the Lightning is far more deadly.

Didn't really see any major waves in this video. The boat doesn't even seem to be rocking much. Just a good light show from skies above. I just get the impression that this guy made it a bigger deal than it was and hasn't had too much experience with stormy weather.

Nice vid! As a fellow great lakes sailor I know how things whip up! I had my first taste of the Atlantic this year, and I have a vid posted up of the tossing we got.. That feeling of being out there with no where to run, not an easy thing to explain, eh?
