Richard Dawkins gives his Canadian fans a good laugh at his meet and greet in Toronto on September 29, 2009. Following an imitation of the viral video superstar Ray Comfort, Dr. Dawkins recommends uses for the creationist's 50-page forward which he has included in at least 50,000 copies of the Origin of Species to be distributed to university campuses across the U.S. The professor's newest bestselling book, The Greatest Show on Earth, is in stores now and is definitely worth a look for all those interested.

  • "Use the pages best for what they're suited for"

    Cleaning your arse after shitting?

  • Seriously? Are you serious? You offer a dopey poem, to what end it's not obvious, but what is obvious is that you don't like Dawkins, presumably because he is an outspoken critic of your bronze-age worldview. Well, guy, rhymes don't make truth, and science is bigger than Jesus. Get a life.

  • if ray comfert ever gave me his book i would take it , smile gingerly, and then rip the 50 pages infront of him and walk away chanting DAWKINS DAWKINS !! ovr and ovr agan with my fist in the air !!!

  • I think Dawkins should write another book so he can come to Canada again. I want to go to one of these things!

  • @jazzx251 That definitely rings a bell now. It's been a decade since I last read Origin.

If you think excising that chapter is bad, please, dear God, don't read Comfort's introduction. The Banana Man actually stoops to taking lines from Stephen Jay Gould and Dawkins, questions that are actually points for future research (you know, acknowledging areas that need further pursuit), and uses them as "proof" against evolution. It is absolutely deplorable.

Thankyou. .. but how dare he, of all people, censor even one word of Darwin's book!

He deleted the one chapter in which, 200 years ago, Darwin took on the same creationist arguments that are used today.

Why did he [Comfort] do that?

Because he wants to paint the creationist argument as current and concurrent with modern science.

... but his arguments are no better than William Paley's 18th century watch!

    Thanks again.

  • @jazzx251 I was finally able to dig out my copy of Comfort's edition and compare it to a more accurate copy. The only section removed is "Chapter VII: Miscellaneous Objections to the Theory of Natural Selection."

I'm not sure themotive for excising only this chapter. I'd have to go back and read the whole to do so.

This, of course, is a change in addition to his fallacious introduction.

  • @Ematched

Apparently, Comfort removed 4 chapters, although the rest is unaltered.
