Lyrics:

Betsy, Betsy, ahhhhh

She was born in '32, and was she ever pretty
She rode a freight train west, all the way from Detroit city
Betsy's seen more places than I'll ever hope to see
Betsy's been more loyal than any friend could be

With some she traveled fast, with others it was slow
Betsy's seen them all, she'd seen them come and go
She must have had some others before I finally met her
And now that she's all mine, they'd better just forget her
Betsy was a lady and that she will remain
Betsy took some beatings but she never once complained

She had a classic beauty that everyone could see
I was the last to meet her, but she gave her life to me
She may be rusted iron, but to me she's solid gold
And I just can't hold the tears back
'Cause Betsy's growing old

  • Is it possible to have more beautiful vocals than this???? What an incredible composer Brian was and is! Love this song!

  • @2010BeachBoy

Totally agree! Thanks for your comment.

  • My favorite Beach Boys song. (IM 35, fell in love with their awsome music at 10, and now all my 4 kids 3-13, love, know and appreciate the boys. Thanks for posting.)

  • @dumbangel03

One of my favorite songs of this wonderful group. They are amazing, thanks for your comment. Your kids also have a very good musical taste.

    :)

  • Amazing! This was written and arranged by a 21 - year old... sung by a group of guys whose average age was even less than that...

  • Yes, young geniuses!

    Thanks for your comment.

  • This is like seriously the only song that has my name in it, and for it to be sung by the beach boys is just such a bonus. Too bad it's about a car X]

  • From where I understood the were talking about a car: They mentioned something rusty that moves fast

  • Everytime I hear this song I thing of my old 55 Chevy in High School in '73. I'm bringing a 57 chevy back to life now. It has sat rusting away for over 22 years. What a great harmony and the Song Writing of Brian Wilson. He is a genius.

  • Ever since my cousin put 2 of their CDs in those old "cassetes" (tapes?) I fell in love with them. This is one of my all time favourite songs in the world.

Initially I thought they were talking about a female dog, but now I see the mistake

    :P

    God bless.

  • i know this song is about a car, but maybe it had a double meaning. genius song

  • Many thanks, dear friend

  • 32 FORD COUPE.

  • I saw them this past Friday in Connecticut, and they played this song :D
