The keynote session at JSDF Day, this panel presented a unique opportunity to bring together Sri Mulyani, the Managing Director of the World Bank Group with two individuals from the PEKKA program in her native Indonesia. PEKKA is a women's empowerment program that started in 2000 and which now operates in 19 provinces and has upwards of 70,000 family members.
The session explored the changing role of women in Indonesia, the evolution of Government policy and the benefits that have derived from community participation and empowerment. Joining Ms. Indrawatio were Nani Zulminarni (Founder and CEO., PEKKA) and Petronella Peni (Village chief, PEKKA member).
JSDF Day was held at World Bank Headquarters in Washington D.C on January 19 2011. It brought together Bank staff, practitioners and beneficiaries to explore the lessons learned from 10 years of the Japan Social Development Fund.
