While in Granada I stopped the shop of luthier John Ray, and we talked about all kinds of stuff, including the inspiration for his Torres model, and a cool La Prevotte that was in the shop for repair.

  • Unfortunately when I was there, the guitar we were talking about was in Santa Monica. I had seen it and was just curious about what motivates a builder to copy a historic instrument. I'll see if I can get a recording of it soon.

  • Thank you, Mr Ray, for building such superb instruments!

For those interested in hearing a studio recording of Albéniz played on a John Ray Torres guitar, I cannot recommend Javier Riba's 2008 CD La Guitarra Soñada highly enough - superb musicianship! Riba's transcriptions have also been published.

La Guitarra Soñada is on the Spanish Trinto Label, catalogue number TD-0050. This disc is also available from GSI in California - for the benefit of North American viewers. -sjh

  • Nice. It would have been nice to hear the sound of it. Let's not forget that sound is the most important part of a guitar, the reason most people buy it.
