Here's the first ever game any GX4000 owner would have played - the racing game that came with the console! Made by Ocean who did an excellent job, and an obvious reworking of their earlier game WEC Le Mans with lovely graphics, enhanced Plus pallete of colours, fab music although the engine noise of the car tends to get on my nerves after a while!!

I'm just giving this a quick play-though, not my best attempt! I've yet to finish this, but I'm close to. Controls are a little sluggish, but the collision detection is spot on.

  • this isnt the emulated version?

  • @jr2nd Sorry what are you asking exactly? Whether this is emulated or not the video?

  • In the description it says you were/are close to finishing this game... You can FINISH this game?!?! I thought it just went on for ever on account of the start line glitch. Then again I was just a little kid back then so what did I know.

  • @PressA2Die Yes you can, I've done it once (don't expect anything amazing at the end though) but I don't have the time and patience to do it over and over to make a longplay vid. Maybe I will some day... who knows!

  • reminds on outrun on the master system.

  • Oh wow, my best mate had the GX4000 (We had the Amstrad 128k) and I was always fascinated by this bright, shiny, awesome game she had waiting to load whn you switched the machine on. But at the end of the day, I learned BASIC and she didn't, so I put my own games in :D Thanks for reminding me how much fun this was though!

  • This has got to some of the best graphics for an 8bit machine. I remeber playing it as a kit and being amazed. Jus after playing some mega drive games and I think the graphics on this are better than super hang on

  • @zimiou

Yes ;-) So you can be qualified for the POLE position

  • Burnin' Rubber always reminds me of the Amstrad port WEC Le Mans 24 should have been, In fact I believe some of the same team worked on it.

  • @zimiou it's called slipstreaming

  • With my Amstrad 486 entering the tunnel, if you stayed too close to the wall causing an accident, the game stopped, as if it were a bug

  • don't forget that it gets dark in the game... it was so amazing at that time

  • If you sit at the starting line until the time runs out something weird happened to your progress map.Been about 18 years since iv played this now. Thanks for the upload

  • This is easily the most beautiful 8 bit racing game I have ever seen.
