One of the greatest all time bossa nova tunes composed by the genius Antonio Carlos Jobim with the original title 'Vivo Sonhando" in Portuguese. Featuring Herb Alpert on trumpet solo.

I was wondering how wonderful it would be if Lani Hall decided to record Tom Jobim's song book with a small low-profile jazz combo to highlight her wonderful voice. The album could be titled "Lani Sings Jobim".

  • There was only one Lani Hall. Back in the 1960's, every man who saw her and listened to her sing fell instantly and hopelessly in love. She was, indeed, fascinating and in person she had such a powerful magnetism that you could not take your eyes off her as she performed.

  • @Halo101st I personally had also this experience when SM&B66 toured Brazil back in 1969. Not satisfied with the extraordinary performance of the group, and specially Lani Hall, I waited until they leave the show venue, just to see Lani Hall and Karen Philipp just 2 m (7 ft) apart. An unforgetable experience!

  • @hardbossa Amazing to be so near to that tiny lady, wasn't it?

I was on leave just before shipping out for my first tour in Vietnam. My date, who worked for the booking agency, got us backstage where we talked with Lani. She was chewing on a plastic swizzle stick. When she put it down with the glass, i sneaked it into my pocket and carried it with me the whole time I was in Vietnam. You could see where she chewed on it. It was a good luck charm to me and, apparently, it worked.

  • @Halo101st No doubt about this my friend. You are right, one of the things that drawn my attention then was how tiny she was as compared with Karen Philipp, nevertheless beautiful and talented.

  • Sergio, Herb, or Lani, or anyone.....is the scene at 2:51 that of the 1965 New York World's Fair? Look closely at the structures in the distance.

    Just my imagination running here?

Awesome trumpet work. Is that Herb?

  • @Oldlionel In fact the scene at 2:51 is from the 1970 Tokyo World's Fair, when SM&B66 group, then at the top of their career, were one the main musical attractions of the Fair.

  • I remember listening to SM&Brasil66 as a small child. My mom was a big fan. She was Latin, too I finally got to see them perfrom live in New Orleans, in the late 70s or early 80s. They gave me goose pimples. I still get them, just thinking about it. Listening to all of this, brings back wonderful memories.

  • With your very beautiful dedication. Nlinda

  • 1:05 to 1:19 i remember those two talented and beautiful ladies in their mini dresses and my mother made one for me just like hers! what an era, i love you mom...

  • She must be ranked as one of the fascinating, interesting vocalists of all time. Her discography is nothing short of amazing. Lani Hall.
