On Sunday, January 23rd, 2011 at approximately 0900 hours Officer David Moore conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Gold Toyota Camry. During the stop, Officer Moore was shot in the head 2 times, the thigh once and the chest once. Luckily, the bullet was slowed down thanks to his bullet proof vest. Officer Moore could not radio for help, fortunately a citizen nearby called 911 and reported an officer down in the middle of the street. Fellow brothers and sisters quickly rushed to the scene, as well as Wishard EMS. Wishard transported Officer Moore to Wishard Memorial Hospital.
Officer Moore entered the vehicle's license plate number before exiting his patrol car and officers retrieved that information. The vehicle was later found, and the suspect was not inside. Later, IMPD SWAT officers raided suspect Thomas Hardy's home, and Hardy was arrested on felony possession of a firearm and connection to a robbery at a Dollar General that occurred approx. 50 minutes following the shooting.
Prayer is strong, please keep Officer Moore in your thoughts and prayers as his family, law enforcement brothers and sisters and supporters deal with this tragedy.
