  • Hi,

Awesome video there is lots of things to learn and wow the videos on you tube for spinners are great. I have drop spindles, Ashford single drive spinning wheel, 2 great wheels, drum carder and a floor loom. I sure went all out but I just love all of this stuff. I hope to meet some new friends that loves to spin.

  • Dear Karen so nice to hear from you!!! My ashford is so old, it does not work anymore. I have issues with drop spindles and plying... any suggestions?

Also thanks for your support in watching my video, and I would love to see you spin in action!!

    blessings, grace

  • Hi Halalsilks, i too am new to spinning. Could you please tell me how you "cast" the yarn off, as in, how do you tie it, so you dont lose the twist, after you finish, but before you set it?

Also, could you please do us a video of plying with a drop spindle?

    kindest...

  • Dear Betty If you are using a hand spindle just tie it around the hook to keep the twist. All spindles, even on a wheel bobbin, you will find that with time, the twist shall be lost. So if you want a bouncier yarn you can try to gently respin, to put back a bit of twist into it... OR you can like many of us do, slightly overtwist as you spin. On a wheel I will wrap the ply over the Upright maiden and tie it around that. Hope this helps. I will try to do more videos soon, thanks for watching! :)

  • Part 2.

Let it soak, rinse well.Gently squeeze out excess water & roll in a towel,to extract more water. At this point you can whack it on your counter a few times to help the yarn to soften. Lastly,Hang the damp loop of yarn on a door knob. Lay a can that is not too heavy, like a can of mushrooms or a soup can inside the loop of yarn. Now just let it dry and it will set the twist. :)

  • NOTE: IF you only have a small amt of yarn or if it is quite delicate, DO NOT use the can method, just use a washcloth or small hand towel to set into the loop to set the twist. I have found that the if the weight is TOO heavy, it can really make your yarn loose it's bounce!! however that is a good yarn for lace...

    blessings, grace, always experimenting
