This short video shows how a floor can be layed using sapplings as the flooring material. It took a couple of days and involved finding straight trees for the job that fit within the size requirements (4" to 6") as well as being all of the same species of tree. None of the floor sapplings are screwed down and are only held in place by the other sapplings next to them, it seems to work fine and saved screws and time. This one room log cabin is fairly square in shape so it was a really simple floor to lay. As noted, there was also a roll of poly used for a wind/vapour barrier under the flooring since there are cracks in the floor that could not be easily filled in. The only thing that I'm concerned about is the dirt and debris that will be tracked into the cabin that falls through the cracks in the floor and onto this poly sheet, oh well I guess it should be replaced or cleaned out periodically. Hope this video gives you some ideas of your own.

  • I am interested in the stove or "heater" in your cabin, how is it made? How well does it work compared to other kinds?

  • I don't have a stove in this cabin. It's really cold here though. But check out dirtTdude on Youtube for a nice heater design, it's even good for cooking steaks.

  • I'm sorry but I don't know anything about V notching though it does sound interesting.
