This is a video of CJ and I brewing a batch of Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. We use the continual-hopping process and we utilize the yeast that I made in the previous video.

Recipe is from Sam Calagione's book, Extreme Brewing:

http://www.amazon.com/Extreme-Brewing-Enthusiasts-Guide-Craft/dp/1592532934

Please note that near the end of the video where I say '9 hours since pitching the yeast', I should have said '15 hours'

  • What tunes do you have playing in the background? Sounded like it would have been off the same cd, throughout the vid. Good brew, and good tunes... cheers fella!

  • @sh0ten Mercury Program

  • Suprised you didn't end up with any DMS in the beer with you covering it during the boil.

  • Hmm I never realized this was an issue until now. I just read up on DMS and boiling. I've always boiled it mostly covered like you see in the video. However, the beer tasted great. I have a couple other kegs of different brews that I'm still drinking... They taste good but when I get home tonight I'll sample them and see if I can detect a DMS smell on them if I'm looking for it.

  • be careful whirlpooling that agressively when the wort is still hot to avoid negative oxidation effects

  • Yeah I didn't think about that. However that's exactly what Caglione called for in his recipe, and it came out tasting just like the real thing... maybe the DFH IPA depends on a little oxidation at the end.

  • do you think you can give me the recipe for this beer? its a great beer

  • You don't get hotside oxidation if you use Maris Otter. Nice viddy, thanks.

  • care to share the recipe?

  • wifeys got a nice ass

  • I do all-grain now, but one thing I learned from using DME is that it's a bit easier to mix it into your water long before it boils. Right after your 30 min. steep of specialty grains, or if no steeping is done just put the DME in cold, then rise up to boil. Mixes more easily.

  • I waited for years to get a chance to try DFH 60 min IPA. I was kinda bummed when I tasted it, way to sweet for my taste. The ABV was impressive and other than the sweetness I could see why people like it. The Hop schedule is obviously great. I have a hard time finding a better IPA than Sierra Nevada's IMHO.... Great video!!

  • nice video. thinking of doing this after my franziskaner heffeweissen clone. I'm not sure whether to call you Eric Bana or Ron Livingston....

  • wow the mercury program...nice taste!!! great beer!!!!!
