Didn't all that sock showing in the back drive you crazy when you went out, though?
-
@allielmackay Yeah, that's how thin my hair is----it works for me just great! But I did go to Jo-Ann's once and bought a thick golden and cream-colored cord (maybe for curtain ties or something?) in my specific length of hair and it's really the answer to that particular dilemma.

@GingerAyell In my experience, when I try to use a ribbon or whatever as a strand in a braid by itself, it winds up looking funny because the strands aren't the same thickness. It can be a really cool look when I'm going for it, but it just doesn't look the same as an even three-strand.

wooow *_* wondeful

I want to do this so badly but I'll probably either get bored or frustrated halfway through lol, I love braids, especially small braids, but my hair is wicked thin so they are hard to make and rarely look good :/ I'll probably try this but figure out a way to make it a little less time consuming

could you please, please, please do the jane eyre wedding and maybe a downton abbey look? (:

Thanks for showing us the process you go through to figure out a new hairstyle. I bet this one would look good with the braids wrapped across the top of your head instead of the super slidey ribbon. You could pin them on the sides and hide the pins with the swoopy hair bits from the front. And then wrap the pony tail with another strand of pearls.

@torrinpaige Thanks for the advice, I will try with the dress. TBH I think I'll snoop through the prom updos even if i do like the effect lol. Thank you. :)
Would this be appropriate for a wedding guest? My godfather/uncle is getting wed in Cape Town, in April its an evening do, full formal dress etc. Is this too much you think? (im 19 if that makes a difference)

@DaughterxOFxDarkness For me, formal dress = formal hairstyle. I recommend trying it out, then putting your dress on and seeing how it looks together. IF it's not quite what you want, you can either futz with it a bit until you like it, or check out some of my bridal/prom do's...I have lots!

To make the pearls show, consider using the string itself as a strand. Do not separate into 3 strands and braid; rather, separate into 2 and use the plastic pearls as your third strand (with no hair underneath it). It will have no choice but to be apparent. Why don't you have an accent? I went to college in Virginia and local people had a decidedly southern sound. You OWE it to the grocery store ladies (or post office, etc.) to show them your classical version. It would make their day!

@GingerAyell I don't have a southern accent because I was born and raised in West Virgina - the northern panhandle, to be exact, which ends up being north of Pittsburgh, PA. I used to have a bit of a P-Burgh accent, but have lost it. I also learned to say soda instead of pop, ya'll instead of y'uns, yes ma'm & sir, and various other southern things so I could blend in a bit better. :o)

I wore my hair like this today and got tons of compliments! Does anybody else have trouble with the criss-crossed ribbon sliding down their ponytail? It stays in at first, but after a couple of hours the criss-crosses will all be at the bottom half of the polytail, and then the top half is all loose and not very attractive.

@CharlotteAnderson3 Mine stayed, but I think that's because I used woven trim instead of silky ribbon - it had a little more grip. Of course, it also gripped a bit when I took it down - I had to go slow to avoid it snagging so much. LOL.
