I generally use a palomar (sp?) or clinch knot when using a circle hook. I really don't care what knot, as long as it works.
You don't have to really strike to set the hook. Just pull and it will do all the work for you.
The way it works is, the rod is generally bending because the fish swims away, but because the 'circle' in the hook, it will swing around (as the fish swims away) and hook the fish in the side of the mouth.
