I walked into the classroom on the first day of junior year, searching for a familiar face. I hadnt had much luck until I spotted Lottie on the other side of the room, staring out the window in the far corner. I took in Lotties lose curls, floral dress and sandals. This was a huge difference from last year, when she had come to school every day for 5 months in black skinny jeans and biker boots. I slipped into the seat next to her and spoke her name loudly. She jumped slightly and turned to face me. When she realised who it was a huge grin spread across her face, lighting up her features. Now she was facing me, I could also see she was wearing soft pink lipstick.
"Wow Lottie, you look completely different from the last time I saw you!" I told her, remembering when I went to the mall with her not 2 weeks ago.
"Oh hi Allie, yeah I know," Lottie giggled" I wanted a new look for this year, I got a bit bored of the emo/ Goth look."
I nodded as if I understood and got my folder out of my bag, getting ready for my first lesson. Lottie turned around again to stare out the window just as our teacher for the year walked in.
"Good morning class! My name is Mr Lautner," Our teacher announced, writing his name up on the board. "I hope you are looking forward for our year of English together". He smiled warmly before setting his bag on the floor. He had warm, kind eyes and a friendly face, which was a huge contrast to our last English teacher who looked like he was about to punch us at any given time. He was wearing a shirt completely buttoned up except for the top 2 buttons and had tucked that into dark wash jeans. His entire look gave off a new young teacher vibe. If he wasnt at least 25, hed of been really good looking. I looked toward Lottie again to see if she had noticed our teacher had even walked in, and saw her twiddling her hair and smiling serenely at him. Uh oh, it looked as if she had acquired a little crush on Mr Lautner.
"I assume you all read the books on the reading list over summer vacation, so does anyone want to tell me what happened in Romeo and Juliet?"
As I walked to the cafeteria for lunch, I heard someone calling my name. I turned around and saw the breathless face of Lottie running towards me but she suddenly halted to a stop. I frowned at her wondering why she had stopped, when she still hadnt reached me. Mr Lautner then amerced from the crowd of students and realisation dawned on me that Lottie had stopped to talk him. I rolled my eyes and carried on walking to the cafeteria.
I pushed open the doors and scanned the room for Stephanie, my best friend for 10 years. She was sitting alone at a table, slowly unpacking her lunch looking around to see if anyone was approaching her. I giggled as I watched her eat her sandwiches self-consciously.
"Hey Steph, I leaned over to hug her and smiled. I like your hair today!"
She patted her hair shyly "Thanks, I woke up half an hour earlier today to curl it "
"I saw Lottie earlier... but she got a bit distracted by our new English teacher" I giggled.
"Shes not sitting with us is she? Im so bored of her depressing nature all the time."
"I dont know, she called out to me as I was walking so she may, I mean she sat with us at the end of last year didnt she."
She sighed and started eating again as she stared at the door mournfully as Lottie flounced in.
