i haven't seen any demos of the eh mini synth on youtube, so i thought it high time to put one up here. this thing is kind of like the edp wasp, though not quite as versatile. obviously i'm just noodling around, but this will give you a basic idea of some of the sounds this thing makes. pretty limited, but what it does do, it does quite well. also, you can get an idea of how the velocity sensitivity works on this thing.

as a bonus, you can download a very detailed kontakt program of a big bass patch that i made with this synth by going here: http://www.twango.com/media/peahix.public/peahix.10025

for those interested, the controls are:

top row sliders l-r:
-pitch bend
-sub octave
-phase rate
-sweep start freq
-sweep stop freq
-sweep rate
-master volume

bottom row switches:
-octave
-tune (recessed trim pot)
-phase
-sens.
-2x filt.
-q
-power

btw, the "phase rate" slider acts as a pwm lfo rate when the "phase" switch is in the up position, and acts as a continuously variable pulse waveform when the "phase" switch is in the down position.

  • yeah, the keys can be kinda flaky... sometimes the thing just has a mind of its own, getting stuck on certain notes and just sort of playing itself... also i should note that the pitch bend slider was pretty dirty when i made this shitteo, so it's really scratchy, but i've cleaned it up and it works more or less correctly now. it just bends the pitch up an octave.

  • buy a korg monotron for 50 bucks or 800 dollars for an ebay driven eh mini synth which isnt much better----hmmmmm!

  • I bought one of these from some rich kid in high school. You can connect a keyboard but it's HARD. I did it, I had to solder every wire myself. I bought a surplus synth keyboard and a case not meant for this project. I ran it through a Realistic electronic reverb which was based on a BBD chip, and also a stomp box chorus.

  • Used by NEWCLEUS (check the Funktuall interview)

  • Eddie Van Halen used this On "Sunday Afternoon In The Park" off 'Fair Warning" album!

  • Wow! Does that take me back! That was my first synth, bought it back in 1981! When the membrane keys started going goofy, I built a hybrid; I gutted a Rheem Kee Bass (search that one) and took the guts of this synth and combined the two devices. It worked great, and was cool to at least have keys to play instead of that membrane stuff! Fast forward to yesterday: a buddy of my kid brother contacted me because he found this hybrid I built in his attic! It'll be cool to play it again after 29 yrs!

  • Somebody's trying to get rid of one of these right now (February 4th 2011) on EBAY for $900.

    $900 for one of these?

I could get a Juno 60 for about that price.

  • @lesscunning no... it costs 400.000 dollars to even play this synth for 12 seconds....

  • I used to have one of these when I was 14. Wow does it bring back memories. I used it to score my Super 8mm horror movies. Don't have the synth anymore unfortunately, but I do have the movies!

  • anybody know how to connect an external keyboard to these things? i love the sound , but my membrane kbd is dying

  • i bet this EHX synth cost 3 million dollars.
