This, I've gotta see. Double Indemnity was an excellent movie. I've also yet to see The Big Sleep. Which version is better? I know the original is a classic, but what about the remake with Robert Mitchum?

Oh true, yes you are right, James M. Cain wrote all three novels. He must have really had a thing about that plot of bumping off husbands! Quite strange. I think D.I. is an okay movie, not a patch on Postman, but I just feel it is somewhat overrated. And as I said that line about the "silly staircase" always cracks me up...And MacMurray's endless monologues into the tape recorder - that is the quintessential parodied noir trope, in my opinion. Still, all good fun!! :)

I agree with you here. However, I was referring to all three movies being written by the same guy. I respect your opinion of D.I.

"I was thinking about that dame upstairs and the way she had looked at me, and I wanted to see her again, close, without that silly staircase between us." That "silly staircase", really?!?! Hahahaha oh my days...Wilder sure wrote some amazing scripts - One, Two, Three arguably the greatest - but that line in D.i. about the sill staircase, that cracks me up every time :D Soo f'kn funny :p

You can't compare this to Double Indemnity (apart from the plot similarities). IMO, Double Indemnity (along with Pretty in Pink) has to be the most overrated movie of all time. MacMurray's performance in D.I. is the most parodied in film noir history. Any parody of film noir always boils down to MacMurray in that film. Also Stanwyck is no beauty like Lana Turner. Where Postman is nail-biting & handsome to look at, D.I. is preposterous & ugly (in all senses of the word).

I remember when Bill was only five years old, I took him to the movies. It was a movie starring Lana Turner. "The Postman Always Ring Twice" with John Garfields. And whenever she would appear on the screen, Bill would begin to suck his thumb to an obscene amount. And I knew from this very moment, that this boy was a fool for blondes.
