One of about 75 young athletes die every year of sudden cardiac death. Of those about a third are caused by a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) , a genetic condition where during the teenage years the heart begins to thicken abnormally. Dr. Keith Mankowitz, Washington University cardiologist at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital and a St. Louis area mother want to get the message out that such deaths can be prevented.

  • Man, I couldn't imagine what it would be like to lose my own child. I don't even have kids but I would rather die for my own child

  • @shawnee2014 My mom has hcm and was treated by dr.shafft at mayo clinic rochester, min usa we all get screened for it because its genetic and in most cases of sudden cardiac death in children happens while playing sportsVery sad to say that unless you know have the gene of hcm by getting screened for it you cant know cause it happens.so what your saying about its called echocardiogram, and artery disease ?dont give advice on a subject you dont understand you will advise ppl to get the wrong exam

  • an electro encephalogram may be important to identify the cause of the first heart attack followed by a hypertrophy, much to the athletes because a coronary artery disease, aortic dilatation of the vein was how to prevent time
