Eleven-year-old orphan Danny Bara lives at the track with her uncle Eddie, a horse trainer in a B-level racing circuit. Although their horses don't win too often, Danny knows racing, to the extent that even odds-makers depend on her for the inside scoop. She thinks she's found a real diamond in the rough with Tom Thumb, the son of a great champion. With the help of a few friends, she places her bets before school and picks up her winnings after, and soon has the money to purchase Tom in a claiming race, along with her two partners, Eddie and another friend, groom Gerald. Tom, formerly something of a problem horse for other trainers, blossoms under Eddie's care and starts winning one race after another. It's no surprise when the horse's former owner and breeder offers the team fifty thousand dollars for him to keep him from competing with their champion-to-be. When the group refuses, they see just how dirty the racing circuit can be, but Danny is nobody's fool and despite all the challenges that come their way, a little faith, loyalty and teamwork goes a long way!
it's not that he didn't listen , i think he used the whip to "pull" the horse, probably because he was paid to do it by the rival trainer.
