@vintagegospel I would be hard-pressed if I had to give up my band saw and table saw, but it could be done. One thing I'd miss is my drill press, but you can get attachments to turn a electric hand drill into a drill press.

It seems that in reference to the planes, what he calls "cast steel" is, in fact not cast but cold rolled tool steel. Cast steel would work as a blade until you tried to use it, then it would chip and break. It's probably a Brit-ism.
I don't think they do. What were you looking for?

I am always greatful for comments - sadly I cannot answer them all. Cast Steel is a high carbon content steel that is laminated to a 'soft' core...
