I love Big Bill and his version of the song.I used to have the original Louie Lasky recording, If anyone out there has it. Could they please post it.

@Bumblebee38 I think that as collectors we must try to figure out this uncertenties. Besides, you was the one who started discussing.
-
Who is right .........does it matter
-
@Bumblebee38 Hey, that's why I say Lasky influenced Broonzy and not the other way round, idea that you qualified as "doubtful", but of which I am convinced.
-
OF course this was LOUIS LASKY playing a 12 string guitar a very NICE a nd VERY VERY rare record
There are other known acc by Louis Lasky
Ma Rainey Pm 12222 Shave'Em Dry Blues August 1923
Bumble Bee Slim Vo 03637 I'm Needing Someone ( Exactly like You ) , playing 2nd Guitar to Big Bill .............June 1935
Wasnboard Sam Mama Don't Allow No1 Vo 03275
Washboard Sam Jesse Janes Blues Vo 03375 Both are NAMED by Washboard Sam

@Bumblebee38 Hey friend, I am also obsessed with facts and years, but I didn't had that specific record, thanks for the acclaration. Doesn't the guitarist in there sound like Louis Lasky?

The record you are referring to was : COOL KIND DADDY BLUES by ANNA LEE CHISHOLM recorded circa April 1924 on Pm 12213
Big Bill recorded for Paramount in 1925 ( Unissued ). If you had read his autobiography you ll know that BOTH recorded with Washboard SAM for Vocalion in 1935.....there is much to learn from OLD folks !!!!!!!!!
When you are awell known Collector of such Race records and when you are also a DISCOGRAPHER you have to deal with accurate dates and FACTS SORRY !!!!
-
@Bumblebee38 Let me ask a friend of mine for the recording I refered to cause I don't have it and don't remeber who was the female singer, for then you can also test it by yourself.
Friend, we'll keep on touch!
-
@Bumblebee38 That's true but: in the 20's an "unknown guitarist" made a
record with a female singer, before Big Bill started recording, from how he plays I am convinced he is Louis Lasky, second; in his 35' recordings Lasky sounds really as an old man. Several blues singers have even refferd to Lasky as an old blues singer and I don't remeber if even Big Bill recalls him.
It's very arguable, though. I found you are a true blues scholar from your comments and your obsession with years! Bye.
this is my favorite song right now
