I had one too. This was sometime back in the 1970's. It was one of my most cherished toys. A friend came over and started playing with it and soon broke it. Boyd did that day suck.

THIS WAS INDEED ONE OF MY MOST CHERISD MEMORIES. A CHRISTMAS MEMORY I WILL NEVER FOR GET. I WAS TEN, AND MY DAUGHTER WILL HAVE HER TENTH CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR.

I HAD ONE - POSSIBLY THE GREATEST TOY EVER !!! THE MEMORIES OF KNOWING THE SHAPE OF THAT BOX UNDER THE CHRISTMAS TREE AND THE LONG ANTICIPATION OF THE WEEKS BEFORE I WOULD GET TO OPEN IT, AND PLAY WITH IT, ARE SOME OF MY MOST CHERISHED MEMORIES AS A CHILD - BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES TO SEE ONE AGAIN........VERY, VERY POWERFUL MEMORIES ABOUT THIS TOY !!!

@rogntudjuuuuu Yea, I have most of my toys, and I am 46 I was always careful with them and they are in great condition. The Verdi Bird is one of my favorites!
