19 year old Terry Granger (Melissa Gilbert) becomes pregnant. Not ready to be a mother, she thinks about having an abortion without telling her boyfriend (Steven Flynn), but her 60-year-old father (George C. Scott) finds out and makes it clear he's strongly opposed to the idea. He's forced to rethink his beliefs, however, when his younger second wife (Jacqueline Bissett) becomes pregnant as well, despite the fact that he'd told her he didn't want more children.
To abort or not, people will always agree, and some will always disagree. I personally am one who believes that it is fully up to you, but make to best decision for yourself mentally and emotionally. I do agree you shouldn't have sex if you can't accept the consequences, but sometimes there are things that prevent a pregnancy from going full term and sometimes and abortion is best .

@SuperAnn123 I agree with you! and the father made a good point with the question, "When does it have a soul?" I believe it has a soul the minute the fetus is formed. Only God has the right to take that child's life or anyone's life for that matter.
I heard a story about this woman who had a 6 year old son and she went to the Dr. wanting to get an abortion. The Dr. told her, "How about you put your 6 yr old to death and give this child a chance at life?" the lady freaked out and left!!

@SuperAnn123 You slaughter millions of bacteria with every breath you take. The fetus does not begin to develop a cerebral cortex - the part of the brain that does the thinking - until week 26. Most abortions take place before week 12.

@BraveNewGirl07 “A fertilized embryo is not a human - it needs a uterus, and at least six months of gestation and development, growth and neuron formation, and cell duplication to become a human. To give an embryo created for biomedical research the same status even as one created for in vitro fertilization (IVF), let alone one created naturally, is patently absurd.” -Michael S. Gazzaniga, Ph.D.

@LIVEMeltdown4ROCK That is so beyond wrong!! No one has the right to take a life only god does.... **If your not ready to be a parent Close your legs yeah that's a good idea!!** And there's always adoption no sham in that give your unwanted gift to someone who wants and will love the baby.

I respect her right to have an abortion, I would understand why she did it. However the dad is way off base thinking that Scott will marry her, I am amusing it's the 1980's , that didn't happen then.

CORRECTION: "Here's "the thing" about that "argument."
Sorry, I'm a perfectionist, and I dislike when my comments have errors in them. Crazy, right? Anyway, after I reread my first reply to you, I noticed that particular mistake. The "above" is what I meant to write. Where was my brain?
ETA: I don't know any women who've regretted having an unwanted child; however, I know many who've regretted having "that abortion" because that "choice" can never be "undid!"

@BraveNewGirl07 - I think life begins at the moment of conception, after the union of the ovum and sperm, but the the heart doesn't start beating until weeks later (can't really remember the exact week, but that's beside the point). Here's "thing thing" about that "argument." In short, when the egg meets sperm, both haploid cells, an entire division of cells will begin before an embryo is formed. Are cells alive? Yes, they are, but are they an actual life yet? The Supreme Court still rules ...
