@brainerdrebel my bad, i assumed you were a recent immigrant but huh? south africans were not enslaved and sent to the americas...those were west/central africans. and a very small number of slaves came from mozambique and madagascar but that's about it

@Trumblebee you are getting deep. I qualify as an AA then, My ancestors where brought to North America from South Africa as bond slaves. Not on slave ships but on death ships, that is a ship were over 50% were expected to died before reaching North America.

@brainerdrebel AA = African American. i don't think you understand what i'm saying - africans in america (most anyway) identify as nigerian-american, egyptian-american, ethiopian-american, and so on, i've never met or heard of an african that calls him or herself an african american. african american is like an ethnic group, they are the blacks descended from african slaves brought here hundreds of years ago.

anyway, i've never ever heard of an african immigrant (even the "black ones") claiming to be african amerian, ever. may have to do with the negative image africans have of AAs but regardless we see them as a separate ethnic group..cnt'd...

@Trumblebee, "YES". There are Arabs, Whites, Blacks, Mixed, Spanish in Africa. Blacks can't claim to be the only African Americans. North Africa has a majority of Arabs. South Africa has a large number of whites. You have to overcome your government education conditioning and find facts for yourself.

@woma0neater, Niger is black in latin. The word originated from niger, a good ole southern master couldn't say niger without a little drawl! Nigeria, the Niger River, etc.

Negro is spanish, simply means black, El Negro. I have lived through it all niger, nigger, negro, colored, black, black panther, african american. It will be something else in the future, I think the NAACP has a convention and changes the name routinely. Hell, I am african american and white, my ancestors left South Africa.
