Thanks for helping with this. I'm not sure if I'll use Cin or recordmydesktop. It looks like Cinelerra can pretty much take care of everything!

I clicked on record button and Cinelerra quited. :)- Zeitgeist Addendum Activist

Thanks for the speedy suggestion cm! Sadly, I don't have pulseaudio installed. However it is good to know that you can get decent audio without kernel hacks so I will persevere.
I have several variants of Debian on various partitions to experiment with, 32 and 64bit.

Nice tute, thank you...
did you have to hack your kernel to boost the audio buffers?
or do anything like that coz when I try i get audio dropouts..
and I'm on a dual core with 4G RAM

Norv,
I just noticed on my new Fedora build on my Macbook (dual boot), that I was getting some distortion. I removed pulseaudio and now I do not hear the distortion anymore. Maybe try removing pulseaudio (yum remove pulseaudio)

gtk-recordMyDesktop is more intuitive and easier to use, it seems. What are the advantages of using Cinelerra for screencapturing over it?

As I haven't used gtk-recordMyDesktop, I'm not sure. A while back, I needed a screencap program and discovered the feature in Cinelerra. The one advantage I can think on is that since I edit in Cinelerra, I have one less step to perform (import the video).
