Barefoot Vet - Part One

On the impact of Community Empowerment
through Livestock Development and Credit Project

(A Joint Project of Nestlé Pakistan and UNDP Pakistan)

Set against the rich tapestry of rural Punjab in Pakistan, this documentary brings to light a new revolution that is quietly spreading across little villages and hamlets in the form of Lady Livestock Workers, local community women who have been trained through a public-private partnership between Nestle, UNDP and the Government of Pakistan. In a country, where 35 million people depend on livestock for their livelihoods, these 'barefoot vets' are providing a ready alternative to previously unaffordable and unreachable services. And, in the process, not just turning around their own lives, but also changing centuries old perceptions about women and their role in society.
