They use the snappy thingy because they did several shots of the same thing... When they watch thru when editting they can choose the scene that was recorded best, because they rember "hey it was scene 1 take 27" and they will easily locate it

@TrollingAUS The "snappy thingy" is called a clapperboard, and it's used in film to synch the video and audio. The equipment they're using records video and audio at the same time. It could potentially help them locate a certain scene, but there are easier ways to do that. Bottom line is they just want to feel special...like they're big-time hollywood movie makers
