  • ho0rowitz died in milano where he recorded the mozart piano concerto. I was at the paris recital with mozart sonatas.

and i was at the return to europe concerts in London ( the royal family was present) , he was ill at the first concert and could hardly play but the second one a week later was great. the recordings of these two recitals were mixed up later.

  • interesting about the mixup.

( as i mention elsewhere, he died in new york city. )

  • Great Horowitz!

  • horowitz is GOD pianist

  • Well, - the "new" cd does help the memory, - but I do remember the feeling that Horowitz was in great form, - and I think you can hear that on the record.

Can tell you how I got the ticket, - I was 19 years old and in my parents summerhouse, - and out of the blue the phone rang, - a lady from Hamburg knew I myself played the piano and she just asked if she should buy some tickets for a recital with Horowitz, - I was stunned, - and just said "yes", - so she just payed the 300 Euros for 2 tickets

  • he began playing it in his 1985 "return" season - i was there in carnegie hall in 12/85 when he unveiled it for the first time in america. i doubt he played it before the 1985 season.

  • please share your memories!

  • i have wondered the very same. i think he did - and so he returned to the site of the beginning of his career. he also played pieces that had historical resonance - the chopin "heroische" polonaise, of course, but also moszkowski, which was some of the earliest virtuoso food he fed on. something few people seem to have noticed is that horowitz's reviving the liszt-schubert soiree de vienne no. 6 had an historical resonance too - it was the last piece liszt played before he died.

  • Did Horowitz know this would be his last recital?
