Chauncey Holt's daughter recorded her father in the spring of 1997. A total of 18 hours of film. Within those recordings is his "personal statement" to her. A moving and sincere message he wanted to clearly present. The thrust of the recorded interview was to preserve details surrounding historical events he participated in, but also to have a rare exchange in telling those events with his daughter, Karyn, whom he loved dearly, and who was just learning about her father's life experiences and the relevance those events had in American history. During the interview with his daughter he recounts details of his unedited autobiographies as well as clarifies assembled writings and documentation preserved over the decades. At that time, Holt was also working with individuals to produce his personal documentary titled: Spooks, Hoods, and the Hidden Elite [SHHE]. In January 1996, the producers agreed to colaborate with Holt, and agreed, in writing, that Holt would serve as "cheif protagonist and sole copyright owner of the soon to be released video:. After the death of Holt, the producers continued to honor their agreement and adhere to those terms and worked directly with Holt's daughter for more than three years on the video. At the conclusion of the production, the producers reniged on their agreement; claiming full ownership rights. This prompted several years of litigation brought on by Holt's heirs. The producers were awarded a judgment in their behalf, with the exception that Holt [his heirs] were to receive 1/3 of the proceeds. To date, the documentary is available for sale and has since changed ownership. However, Holt [nor his heirs] has ever received any form of compensation for their efforts. After the transfer of the production, another litigation ensued which eventually was dismissed due to lack of funding to keep the lawsuit going. Litigation over Spooks, Hoods, and the Hidden Elite lasted for nearly 7 years. To date, Holt is not been listed as an "author", nor "creator", nor "copyright owner" of the production. It is the strong opinion of the Holt family that the producers, as well as other vested parties sadly, but legally, stripped the production and the fruits of Holt's [and his heirs] labors, costing the Holt family 10's, upon 10's, upon 10's of thousands of dollars in their attempt to resolve the matter judicially. In addition to the litigation over the return of the video production SHHE, another cause of action was brought on by the Holt family for the return and compensation of materials supplied for the production of SHHE. These materials were never returned by the producers. Over 150 original documents submitted by Holt and his family. Although the family of Holt were supplied copies of the original documents by the producers, "as receipt", as well as the producers supplying recorded messages indicating their safeguarding over the course of three years, this evidence was never entered into court, and the preciding judge refused to entertain the "conversion" claims against the producers. The producers eventually succeeded in court by way of "summary judgment". Yet, in October 2003, the month in which Chauncey Holt's wife passed away, a "News Release" was submitted online by the producers of SHHE indicating "never before seen documents were being kept in a safe deposit box in Encinitas, California". Holt's daughter continues to preserve her private recordings of her father, as well as the many remaining original documents, photographs, video, audio, and writings by Holt and she continues to defend the injustices that have been placed against Holt and his family. The family of Holt refuses to endorse the production of Spooks, Hoods, and the Hidden Elite and has provided no release for the materials utilized, or any likeness or image of Holt's daughter claiming to support the production and sale.
