  • what does parted rods mean

  • @MegaLilkeith

The rods are connected to the pumping unit at the surface and the down hole pump at the other end. Any part of the rod string that breaks apart is considered a parted rod.

  • Looks like its real weight heavy.

  • Correct. It had parted rods. Took the video when I pulled up before shutting it down.

  • is that a parkersburg unit?

  • It is a Heston Sentry pumpjack. 320-256-100

  • What is a parted rod?

  • dunno why but they are creepy^^

  • When you use a gas engin to power a pumping unit you might get a fire from the well if the part was at the packing and the rod fell below the packing you could get a leak

  • Does it waste a lot of product? Could someone describe (just how exactly) detrimental this is? Could it cause an above ground leak? an engine explosion?

  • Oh, okay now I get it. There was no weight pulling the head down cause the rods were parted down below, yeah? That's why it whips Upward like that. I admire you guys for doing this kind of stuff. It's deadly, Iron has no soul. I was raised in an oil patch in south central kansas. What fun. Leonardo Da Vinci was a brilliant man.

  • Yeah, seems like it was "Wound for sound"

  • not at all. after you pull the rods above the part you use a fishing tool that slide over the parted rod and as you pull back out

the slips on the fishing tool will grab the rod and you pull the rest of the rods out.

But if that wont work you pull the pipe till you get to the parted rod
